Teresa “Gigi” DeBerry is an artist and arts educator currently based in Brooklyn, NY. She received a BA in Art Practice and Latin American Literature at the University of California Berkeley, MSEd in Urban Education at Johns Hopkins University and MAT at Relay Graduate School of Education. Gigi currently works as a full-time art teacher at a Brooklyn public middle school. She also collaborates with the NYC DOE as a facilitator for district wide arts development programming and teacher trainings.
With over 12 years of experience spanning arts education, arts and leadership, Gigi’s passion lies in creating pathways for underrepresented communities to fully engage with the arts. Fueled by a genuine frustration with systemic barriers obstructing access to artistic opportunities, Gigi’s professional ethos centers the arts as a vital catalyst for fostering equity and inclusion across various societal realms.
From the classroom to her own ventures in art, Gigi’s endeavors address the multifaceted nuances of intersectional identities while confronting structural inequities head-on. With a strong commitment to youth development, she brings extensive expertise in arts based programming and education, specializing in program development, curriculum design, and leadership.
